New web Service to Update Survey Mark Details

Prior to this release, SMES provided only a single method or interface for updating details about survey marks held with SMES. Which was by way of signing in to the SMES application as an authorised user and updating survey marks through the SMES web interface. Having identified the limitations and inefficiencies imposed by this (singular) approach, we have introduced new web services that allow the updating of existing survey marks in SMES.

If you are a registered SMES user, you will be able to use the new web services to carry out updates to existing survey marks in, including the submission of mark photographs and raw survey observations to upgrade marks to SCN status.

Please refer the SMES Web Services User Guide at this link for more details on how you can start using the new web services.

If you have any questions or would like additional support with using the new web services, please get in touch with us via e-mail at smes.support@delwp.vic.gov.au

New Mark Infomration Fields

In order to make the information in SMES more comprehensive and useful, new fields have been added that enable the capture and display of additional attributes related to survey marks. These new fields add the ability to record details on the physical attributes of survey marks and can be entered when a survey mark is created or when an existing mark is updated.

Following tables outlines the new fields that have been added and their attributes:

FIELD TYPE VALUE(S) REQUIRED?
Ground to Mark Offset Text Field Decimal number between -99.999 and +99.999 No
Cover Exists List Yes | No Yes
Marker Post Exists List Yes | No Yes
GNSS Suitability List Good | Moderate | Poor No
Mark Type List Plaque | Cross Head Nail | Deep Driven Rod | Pipe | Rivet | Star Picket | Other Yes
File Category List Sketch Plan | Mark Photograph | Raw Survey Data | Other Yes if a file is to be uploaded

We have also added the ability to upload additional file types to the supporting files section of SMES. When updating existing marks or creating new ones, this allows the uploading of additional types of files associated with a survey mark. Based on the selected file category (last row of above table), the following types of files are allowed to be uploaded:

  • Sketch Plan - PDF files
  • Mark Photographs - JPG | JPEG files
  • Raw Survey Data - T01 | LB2 | RINEX | DAT files
  • Other - Any other file type
The maximum file size allowed is 5MB per file.
