what's new in this release for Vicnames?
In this release for Vicnames, a couple of improvements were made to the UI and the way information is displayed and improvements have also been made to the Administrative functions around the management of Radius data for Localities.
Changes to Labels
Following labels in Vicnames have been updated to reflect new naming conventions and also to minimize any confusion that could be caused.
- Feature Subtype is now Feature Type
- GNR is now Geographic Names Register
Locality in Places Search
Previously, when a Places search was performed, users were able to specify a Municipality but not a Locality. Therefore, in order to enable a search to be restricted to a Locality rather than just to a Municipality, the Places Search function in Vicnames has been improved to include the option to select a Locality as well.
- Selecting a Locality is not mandatory. A Places search can be performed without a Locality being selected. If a Locality is selected, the search will be confiend to the area of the selected Locality.
- The option to select a Locality is available for both Places as well as Plces Duplicate Search options.
- The option to select a Locality can be found between the Feature Type and Municipality options in Places Normal and Places Duplicate search functions.
Improved Display of Historical Information Search Results
Previously, the search results for Historical Information has been somewhat confusing to look at. The Name was displayed above the Feature it was referring to with a line separating it from the
Feature. This caused a bit of confusion as a list of search results seemed to associate the incorrect Feature and the Name.
In order to improve this, the row grouping header has been reformatted to
create a better distinction between the groups of search results. You can see the sample at the link below to see how this screen has been updated.
Place ID and Place Name ID in Place Details
The "Place ID" and the "Place Name ID" is now being added to the "Place Detail" screen when the details of a selected Place is displayed. This information will better assist in indetifying Places and their associated Names.
Please see below sample screen to see where this information has been added to.
Locality Default Search Radius Maintenance
Each Locality has a default search radius that is used when search for duplicate names. This is stored in Vicnames and is retrieved when a user initiates a search. The default radius is
determined by each Municipality and as Localities change, the appropriate search radius need to be updated. Previously, the radius search value for each Locality could only be updated by raising a Help Desk job.
With this release, Vicnames has added new Administrative functionality that will enable authorised administrative users to update the radius values through Vicnames Administrative interface.
